A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE HIGHWAY 30 CAR CLUB

The Highway 30 Car Club began in July, 1996 with five charter members, Rich Vollmer, Pierce McCready, Don Gallo, Gene Stien, and Ken Hummel, with a cruise to Burger King, St. Clair, MO. It had grown to 30 members by the following September when they hosted their very first annual car show. With steady growth every year, the membership has grown to nearly 100. Highway 30 Car Club is not just a “Man Thing”, roughly 50% of our members are women. Members range in age from teenagers to seniors, all with a passion for classic, custom and antique cars, and a desire to help those in need.

A large percentage of our events are to raise money for local and national charities, including activities such as MS Walk-A-Thon, Multiple Sclerosis Society and Children’s Miracle Network.
Monthly cruise-in’s are held at local Burger King restaurants and other businesses featuring awards for employee choice vehicles and music from the fifties and sixties. We have our annual Car Show each year and a Fall Color Run to cruise the countryside to view the colors of autumn.

Membership is open to all, regardless of age make or condition of car. If fact, one does not even have to own a car to become a member. All that is required is a desire to preserve the older automobiles and the will to improve our community.

The real objective of this club is to have fun, make new friends, see some of our old friends and lend a helping hand when needed. We get together to talk about our cars and trucks and show them off. And, in the process, we try to learn a few new things.

During the winter months, we keep busy getting organized for the next season and fixing up our jalopies. Members donate and distribute food baskets during the Thanksgiving holiday and The Highway 30 Car Club Santa and his helpers visit the elderly at the local nursing facility each Christmas with gifts and treats for all. We also provide a Pizza party for the nursing home residents each New Years Eve.
